Chevy New Car Warranty: What’s Covered in 2024?

Chevrolet offers a limited warranty that allows vehicle owners to enjoy their new units supported by outstanding service and coverage. The new vehicle warranty allows vehicle owners to enjoy peace of mind, cost savings, enhanced resale value, and regular vehicle maintenance.

Although new vehicles come with a manufacturer’s warranty, some vehicle owners experience persistent defects that are difficult to fix. As a result, affected consumers endure a frustrating driving experience riddled with frequent breakdowns and incidental expenses.

California Lemon laws allow consumers who buy new or used vehicles with a manufacturer’s warranty to obtain refunds or replacements.

If you bought a new Chevrolet vehicle with a persistent defect, consider speaking to a trusted Anaheim, California lemon law attorney.

Chevy New Car Warranty: What Is Covered Under the Chevrolet Manufacturer Warranty?

Here is the coverage you can expect for your new vehicle:

Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty

It covers the entire vehicle for repairs, including labor and parts, to fix any defect in the materials or workmanship for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.

It also includes:

  • Towing to the nearest authorized dealership for warranty repairs
  • Warranty protection on tires from defects related to material or workmanship(wear and tear is not a defect)

Emission Control Systems Warranty

There are two types of coverage available: Federal Emissions Control System Warranty and California Emission Control System Warranty.

Under the Federal Emissions Control System Warranty, coverage depends on the type of vehicle and emissions component:

Light Duty Car or Truck

  • It covers emissions-related components warranted for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • Select emissions-related components such as catalytic converters, engine control modules, or diagnostic-emissions-critical electronic control units for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Heavy Duty Truck

It covers emissions-related components for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.

First Maintenance Visit

When you purchase or lease a GM model, the warranty covers the first maintenance service visit. This visit includes an oil change, multi-point vehicle inspection, and tire rotation.

Rust-Through Protection

The new manufacturer’s warranty covers all body and sheet metal components against rust through— an actual hole in the panel. The coverage lasts 6 years or 100,000, whichever comes first; however, other durations may be available,

Corrosion Protection

All body and sheet components are protected against corrosion for the duration of the warranty. The coverage lasts 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Courtesy Transportation

If your Chevrolet model requires warranty repairs during coverage, the following service is available:

  • Alternative transportation (And/Or)
  • Refund of particular transportation expenses

What Does the Chevy Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Include?

Here are the benefits of a pre-owned warranty:

  • 3-day/150-mile Vehicle Exchange Program: If you change your mind after purchase, you can exchange your Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle for a different one within 3 days or 150 miles of the purchase.
  • Two-Factory Backed Warranties: Every CPO has the following two warranties: a 6-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and a 12-month/12,000 bumper-to-bumper limited warranty.
  • Schedule Maintenance Program with Two Maintenance Visits: You get two maintenance visits within 2 years/24,000 miles, which include oil and filter changes, multi-point inspections, and tire rotations.
  • Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation: The warranty covers full roadside assistance for the duration of the powertrain limited warranty—6 years or 100,000 miles from new vehicle delivery, whichever comes first.

What Does the Chevy Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Include?

What Is NOT Covered Under the Chevrolet Manufacturer Warranty?

  • Vehicle Misuse: You should use the vehicle according to its ability and design. According to the owner’s manual, the vehicle is designed for regular travel and favorable conditions. Therefore, any damage caused by unfavorable conditions like towing or competitive racing is not covered.
  • Incidental or Consequential Loss: The manufacturer’s new vehicle warranty does not cover consequential or incidental loss caused by vehicle or commercial loss.
  • Wear and Tear: The Chevrolet manufacturer’s new vehicle warranty doesn’t cover loss due to normal wear and tear. Similarly, it doesn’t cover loss due to scratches, chips, and dents.
  • Unauthorized Modifications: When you modify your vehicle, you may use unapproved or substandard parts that can damage it. The warranty doesn’t cover damage related to substandard parts.
  • Physical and Cosmetic Damage: The manufacturer doesn’t cover cosmetic damages such as discoloration and scratches. If you damage a car seat through mishandling, the manufacturer doesn’t cover it.

Duration of the Chevrolet Factory Warranty

The Chevrolet factory warranty promises a vehicle owner their vehicle will perform as promised in the first few years of service. It covers repairs associated with defects in materials or faulty workmanship that cause mechanical breakdown.

Here is the breakdown of coverages:

  • Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty— 3 years/36,000 miles
  • Restraint system warranty— 6 years/72,000 miles
  • Corrosion protection warranty— 3 years/36,000 miles
  • Rust-through Warranty— 6 years/100,000 miles
  • Powertrain limited warranty— 5 years/60,000 miles for most vehicles with gas and diesel engines. However, it is five years/100,000 miles for the Silverado TurboMax.

What Is Chevy Extended Warranty Coverage?

Chevrolet offers the Chevrolet Protection Plan, the manufacturer’s version of extended warranty coverage. It can provide your vehicle with extra years of coverage when the factory warranty expires.

Depending on your lifestyle, the extended warranty offers three types of plans: silver, platinum, and powertrain. The platinum plan offers up to 8 years or 100,000 miles of warranty protection.

All extended warranty plans include towing, roadside assistance, trip interruption coverage, and car rental reimbursement.

"Pleased with the Service"

Happy to hear from you. I was very pleased with the service you provided. I couldn’t be happier. The timing was excellent. I retired June 1st and didn’t really need the car anymore. I didn’t go out and buy another car. I decided to hang on to my money for a while.

"Beyond Satisfied"

I am beyond satisfied. After being told that I did not have a case by other attorneys, I was referred to Ms. Campbell and I am so glad I called her. During the initial consultation, Ms. Campbell was very thorough and answered all of my concerns. She assured me that this was not an overnight fix, however, it took less than three (3) months to resolve. Ms. Campbell was available every step of the way. I rarely called or emailed her because she always kept me in the loop. Every case is different but I am glad mine was quick and painless. I would recommend LemonLaw123 to anyone without any reservations. I could not have asked for better representation. Thank you!!!!
